What IS Digital Management?
Not sure if there is an actual Websters definition, but I define it as managing your online data and presence. A place where all of the mess of passwords and access is located and viewable. I’ve had dozens of small business clients, and every single client had the same issue, see if you can relate to this:
- “I don’t know the web login, let me see if I can find it ….”
- “Facebook Password?? I don’t know maybe its my account”
- “Call this number, they might have the login info”
- “I don’t have access to my Facebook page, I have to find out who does”
How do you actually expect to manage anything when you can’t even login? As an agency owner, it’s extremely frustrating and my team ends up doing more work to find a login than the actual scope itself. I swear, I can make an entire business out of just recovering logins and passwords.
The first step to Digital Management is to identify exactly what it is you need to obtain. I made a list of typical accounts below that will help guide you through this. Don’t worry, I will deep dive into each type of account as well as exactly how to find this information out.
- Your Website
- Domain: this is the www of your website. Could be managed by GoDaddy or Google
- Hosting: the actual website application. Could be on Godaddy, Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress.
- Facebook: There are 2 types of logins for this
- Personal: This is most likely your personal email address
- Business: This could also be your personal email address, but you login to a different page other than Facebook.com
- Instagram: There are also 2 logins for this
- Login with Facebook: you read that right, Facebook owns Instagram so if your accounts are linked, you can login that way.
- Email & Password
- Email Marketing: Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.
- Google My Business: The king of information and your presence on the number 1 spot where people look.
Why is Digital Management Important?
Just imagine you can’t find the keys to your place of business. Now amplify that by how many people browse the internet to potentially purchase a product from your website. If your website goes down and you can’t login to the backend to try and fix, then how can you make any money? That would be the equivalent of the power going out at your place of business and the electric company tells you that they can’t fix it because they don’t have the keys.
Not only does this affect your income stream, but it also affects your reputation. Your brand becomes an unreliable and unprofessional brand to deal with. Everything goes down at some point, even the mighty Facebook goes down every once in a while, but there is always a plan in place to get things back up and running. Do you think Mark Zuckerberg is calling a vendor to reset passwords? No, his teams probably have them stores in a secure location so that in the event of an outage, they can take the proper steps to try and rectify the situation. There is no reason why you can’t do the same thing for your business.
